I dont post here for a while and this is what happens.... people wanting to get rid off their good pullets....

Well I will definitely repost her when she's laying age. But you'll of course have some of the same type of your own to see what they end up like as well. I've been wondering about the brown based vs gray based body color as Lillian looks rather brown based. Of course is a gorgeous bird and I don't know if her brown base is allowed or if its preferred.

Well strictly based on sop language the base seems to need to be gray but what it seems to come down to is neither of these are strictly the right sop color. Though color alone doesnt make a bird. Frustratingly a friend breeds random Easter eggers that end up with this gorgeous gray barred based body and silver cream hackle! But no salmon of course no crest of course.

Yes, I did check the link and the pictures. I am sorry that I confused the discussion with the picture of the pullet that had gold in her crest. It should not have been posted. The pictures below are the ones of interest.

This is my best pullet who has the best conformance with the SOP as I understand and have been told by many. The issue I have been raising is with the dark pullets that seem to have come from Greenfire's latest lines in the USA. These pullets are very dark and their colors are very off in my opinion. Here is a picture of the typical dark pullet of which I also have two.

LL

Maybe they will change as they mature and go through successive molts. I just do not understand why we are seeing such a difference in colors.

I was not trying to be argumentative but I have difficulty accepting statements that do not provide a basis for the perspective. If you have a view/opinion and can support that in the discussion, it is easier to digest and develop understanding. Peace.

GFF was getting alot of Heat due to importing such Rich colored Pullets, so they imported a new blood line which is not related to the first ones, and while they may be darker than usual, this is to be expected on the Lebars, they have shown to have some sort of Melanizers that are not found on your typical light brown leghorns, these melanizers do their job on the bird's crest, saddle, hackle and even on the secondaries.... what to do with this correct colored pullets(they will get lighter with age)? well knowhing that they have these melanizers is good because you know you can use it with Males lacking in melanizers, that on itself will even things up in the F1s

This girl and her parents did not recently come from GFF so this result is due to the selections breeders and I have made since the birds were obtained back when.

this is another proof of the extrange(undocumented as of today) melanizers found on Legbars, are they bad? no they are part of the breed after all, can they show more one some birds? yes, the trick is to balance them out with birds that carry low amounts of melanizers

I was taking some pictures today and I thought I'd share this one - its a good example of the difference in hackle color. The darker one on the right is going to be a cull, she also has darker feathers on her chest instead of the solid salmon coloring

These are much lighter and much preferred

Lovely pullets. Is the very bottom shot the same pullet standing on the left in the first picture?
Is the second to bottom picture the pullet on the right in the top picture? Or different pullets?? I see the dark feather tips on the side of the breast in the second from the bottom -- but I LOVE the crest and the comb and the face on that one you are going to cull.... She has nice white earlobes too. That pullet shows the size of the crest that I am going for---and I love her comb and face too.

Thanks for posting!!!!

ETA are both the bottom two photos pullets the same age?? If you could put crest, comb and head of the one on the body of the other.... :O)
