Cream Legbar Working Group: Standard of Perfection

I'm glad you had a good experience! When I was first buying I stayed clear of anyone who said anything like, "they look like normal Cream Legbars".

Well, I probably went through about 20 ebay sellers before I actually bid on any eggs. Then the two I bid are members of the breed club and respected folks. I was appalled at some of the pixs and responses that I did get. You really have to do your homework before you bid!

While I have had terrible luck with getting eggs to hatch from eBay sellers, it is more a function of the post office than the shipper. But I also must acknowledge that my best pullet came from an eBay seller who is not a member of the CL Club. Sometimes you can get lucky both with a good experience and winning the genetics lottery.

My best pullet:

She is gorgeous! Not quite POL, right? I noticed her face is still pale. I've got a pullet that I was looking at yesterday who is getting red in the face- yippee!

The link below is to a 1944 publication titled Mating and Breed of Poultry. On page 20 and 21 is describes cockerels with low vigor that should be avoided as breeders. I thought it was intresting what it says about long legged cockerels (SEE LINK).

I came across the photo of this guy today and asked permission to repost it for a discussion on body type. What caught my attention were the high attachment of the body to the legs. This looks lot more like the historical photo on the left of the Cream Legbar that I have seen on other Cream Legbars but I am still wondering if this is weakness that should be breed away from or a well built bird. Anyone know?

Any infor about age of the cockerel? Sometimes they are leggier when they are still growing to full size. The tail makes me think quite young, but the front looks pretty mature....this isn't that extreemly long legged bird we were indicating was 'stilty' a while back only grown up -- Is it?
