It's here:

Also put a poll in so readers can weigh in on how interested they would be to have it. Hmmm.

Hi everyone,

I am in correspondence with GaryDean26.

I would like to know what the average weight's of everyone's hens are? But in order to confirm it I need some weight information, actually both hen's and cocks weights would be great.

Thanks
Cheers!

some photos I took this weekend of a few of the boys in the pen. Still have all 11 and have not culled anyone yet.

I really like the profile and barring on this cockerel. He looks the best of the three that you posted. After playing roulette in obtaining hatching eggs and chicks from different sources, I may have to acquire some hatching eggs from you.

I have some birds that show promise but I have not been impressed with some recent acquisitions. Still waiting on further grow out but i am looking to further improve my flock.

Here are some weights I have on 15 hens that I evaluated in August (10-13 months old except foundation hens).

2 lbs 14 oz (was broody)
3 lbs 1 oz
3 lbs 4 oz
3 lbs 5 oz
3 lbs 6 oz
3 lbs 7 oz
3 lbs 8 oz
3 lbs 8 oz (Sold to TherryChicken)
3 lbs 10 oz
3 lbs 12 oz (Retained for breeding)
3 lbs 12 oz (21 month old foundation hen)
3 lbs 13 oz (Retained for breeding)
3 lbs 14 oz (Sold to TherryChicken)
3 lbs 15 oz (Sold to TherryChicken)
4 lbs 4 oz (21 month old foundation hen)

I culled about 10 cockerels from this group last February. I don't have a record of their weight but they were 18-24 weeks old. The largest cockerel (son of the 3lbs 13 oz hen) was 5 lbs even. The smallest cockerel (son of the 4 lb 4 oz hens but 5 weeks younger) was 3 lbs 15 oz.

2-year old rooster 6 pounds 2 ounces at last weight
1 + year old hen 3 pounds 10 ounces
2 year old hen - just at 4 pounds

This was a couple of weeks ago--- They are growing (there must be something in the water here) - I think because they have finished their molt and not started egg laying yet - they are porking up a bit. I will probably be getting the son of the two-year olds back - and I think he is a bit bigger than his father. They are muscular under their fluffy soft feathers

1 hen Right at 4 lbs she's 9 months old and Elvis right at 5 lbs last time I weighed him at about 9 months old.

Had been feeding around 18% all flock with oyster shell free choice at the time.

Ohh good god

- There is a lot more work to be done yet.

What % protein are you feeding?
Right now the Purina 'all flock' - are you familiar with it? I think it is 20% - it helped them come through their molt very well. ETA - oops it is called FlockRaiser

Where I live the summers are 100+ all the time -- chickens spend more time panting and less time eating when the heat is brutal and these grew up in pretty brutal heat.... I think it could also be a factor... Now that the weather is decent they are more interested in doing some eating....
