Cream Legbar Working Group: Standard of Perfection

There is a lost art it would seem called Etiquette that I would like to think still hold true today. I have no problem disagreeing about chickens or admitting how little I know about this or any other topic as I do love a good debate and view myself as a life long learner. This is an online forum where we accept people at face value, or even less since it is the internet and all that happens here is not as it may be in real lire.  But I draw the line, and see no reason to blindly accept or put up with anyone placing their personal self-prescribed pedigree or requisite abilities above another's or as a reason to degrade anyone in personally directed downgrading statements. I think everyone should be able to share what ever knowledge they wish to dispense upon others and disagree or not, without speaking to the receptors ability to decipher or mentally manipulate it. Education or intellect is no reason for being rude. If so, Sallie Mae, holder of my student loans, knows I've got plenty of reasons of my own then. The statement made was flagged by a friend of mine and subsequently removed. I've had enough.

The 4 year old is taken care of so going to have some coffee and attempt to go outside into that frigid tundra out there and stare at my chickens some.   I need to make some decisions on these boys.

Thank you for redeeming the thread. I'd given up on it. I agree with you completely.

I am so sorry about upseting you or BlackBirds, I will do you guys a favor, I am out of this thread for good, so good bye...
My personal opinion on it... is that you should stay! And just be nice :). Everyone makes mistakes. I make HUGE mistakes. I think you can just continue to be involved if you would like to. That's my opinion. You have a lot to contribute.

I agree. I think you also have tons to contribute and I love to hear the things that you teach us. Yes sometimes you are strong with your words but I do think you can help us all with genetic aspect that a lot if us don't understand.

I don't think you should leave the thread. I have found value in what you post. I was not upset as much as I was annoyed. This is supposed to be fun and all of us have limitations and gaps in our understanding. I think the your can's and cannot's should remain with the chickens and not delve into the areas of personal or mental acuity because that is just purely insulting and not appropriate, in my opinion. My husband thinks I should have just ignored this and on second thoughts maybe I should have just let it fly by me but .... I'm not a fan of being told what I am incapable of doing it riles me a bit.

I enjoy the education on this thread actually read it almost daily.I am a total beginner and strive to have a small flock as close to the proposed SOP as I can. I am on here to learn. And that I do. So can someone tell me why my pullets do not have crests? From the same hatch,2 females did (of course from the eggs I gave away to a friend to hatch under her broody, I had no room in my small incubator. ) 2 do not have crests, the ones I hatched. To top it off, a pullet ( C line) direct from GFF has no crest.*

Basically the parents were either both carriers of one copy of cresting, or the pullet you referred to above was the mom and dad was a single crest carrier. Crests will show up if one copy is present, and will be larger if two copies are present. You could test your birds by mating them with an uncrested bird...if any of the offspring were uncrested, then you would know the crested parent only had one copy of cresting. If all the offspring were crested than the crested parent carries two copies and will pass the crest gene to all offspring. Is that clear as mud?

thats ok, I´m done with the SOP, thinking about it is alot more subjective than I usually like to engage on, I am a walking genetic calculator and its not as subjective as one would think, ER/ER mated to e+/e+ will produce ER/e+ chicks always(at least if breeds are pure)..

so any Genetic questions you can P.M me..

Thanks
Marvin
