Im not to sure how long I plan to hold on to him, since he has curled toes he is of no use to me in breeding and space is limited. I hope to hold him for a while so I get an idea on his coloring as he matures but at some point he needs to get culled. I will try to take a wing picture of him, maybe tomorrow.

One can only keep so many! If you get to keep him long enough to see him move more toward his adult plumage---you have to post photos! :O)

I agree with Chickat and Walt that your hen has a lovely tail, though just a tad too high. She also appears to be healthy, full, and have a nice long back and matching underline/keel. Great job! I love her nice high wings and the comb flops correctly without impairing vision. Color wise she looks pretty good. Keep working on making sure the barring is visable (gray on gray). I would look at making pairings with a crested boy to get that crest added, and a lower tail set to fix the angle. No crest =DQ.

Your cockerel looks young, how old is he? If he has time to grow I would expect that chest to start dropping between 10 and 18 months. You're looking for a smooth rounded and deep breast. Do you see that line running down the center of the chest? That is something we're all working to eliminate. If his keel is too short, pairing him to the hen you posted should create longer offspring. Does he have a crest? And is his stance always slightly knock kneed? Or is it just the angle if the picture? He looks to have a nice wide leg set, just watch those knees to make sure he can support his weight. The tail is very close to squirrel, but that can be fixed in just one generation. I love the light coloring on top and darker under color, crele- like he is supposed to have. And he looks to have proper barring in his secondary flight feathers, which is something many people have been struggling to achieve. Great! I would match with a crested long looking hen with a lower tail set to get the tails down. Best wishes and thank you so much for taking the time to share!

Thanks for your input everyone. I am new to the CLB & am glad to see I have some good things going. I think his stance was a lil off because he was mad at me. lol I have 4 hens & one cockerel. All are about a year old. The cockerel only has a slight crest & 2 of the hens have a bit more but not huge crests. The other 2 hens don't seem to have any crests. Should I not breed them if they don't have crests? I will also subscribe to the CLB thread, as I have much to learn. Thanks again for everyone's advice/iput, I am looking forward to learning more about this breed.

anac, my 2 cents: you have some good things going despite the small or lack of crests, so if at all possible, this season only make pairings where at least one parent bird has a visible crest. Then the next generation remove all uncrested birds from the breeding program. Cresting is very important to our breed! Best wishes!

I like your male very much! He has great length through his back nice body shape and seemingly nice tail angle beautiful white earlobes. He is lacking the barring in his wing triangle which has been a recent discussion.

Sorry for your loss. Some of mine need to go there too...... IMO - the rooster in the middle in that picture really has "it".

ETA are they unrealated? For my flock it is too light -- but the stance and the type and the comb etc. very nice bird.
