Studies do seem a bit bias I mean we all seen cats kill large rats. Just one colony of ferals or a few colonies maybe they had easier options and could not afford to use extra energy to hunt rats. IF fed well and healthy would be better.
I had one that looked similar, he was black and greyish, whiteish. He was a stray kitten who picked our home to hang out, probably because we put food out for him. He had the best personality and was a prankster also a rodent hunting machine.
