Okay I know that there are Buff Plymouth Rocks, but I would like to know how I could create a Buff Columbian Color in Plymouth Rocks.

I like the Buff Columbian color better than just buff.

I realize that it would be years to get them up to perfection. I would be dedicated to the project if I decided that I would like to take it on.

I would like to be able to start with an actual Plymouth Rock ( what ever color would work best) if the experts think that would be workable.

Okay so what other breeds would be good to include to be able to come up with this color variety?

Ready and go!

Theres no need to cross with another breed.
There are columbian rocks so......
Breed a buff rock rooster to columbian rock hen.
Pick best cockerel (all will be same color) from that cross and breed back to columbian hen.
If you produce enough chicks you will get a few buff columbian pullets.
You should also get some cockerels that are columbian pattern but lighter then buff. Kinda yellowish.
They are columbian patterned but instead of having two gold genes (buff) or two silver genes (columbian) they have one silver gene and one gold gene.
Breed one of those cockerels to the buff columbian pullets.
Those offspring will include (among others) buff columbian pullets and cockerels.
Now you have your buff columbians. They will have some other genes in there so probably wont breed true quite yet. But you can work with them until you get them to.

If you use a different breed id go with buff columbian wyandottes.
Cross you buff rock with them till you get your buff columbian pattern and breed out tbe rose combs which wouldnt be too hard to do. Rose comb is dominate to single so when your chicks end up showing single combs youll know they are pure for it.

Thanks @moonshiner if I decide to do this I'll let everyone know.

I didn't think a pure buff would work though. Then again I'm not a genetics expert either.
