Hey im in 8th grade and for our World History class I have a lot of projects to do like writing essays about things and making up stuff and acting in scenarios in character and my teacher is really tough but he has taught me a lot in the 2 months i have had him, my homework assignment for this week was to write a 2 page minimum 2.5 page max paper pretending i was an immigrant to Ellis Island after participating in a simulation in class and taking notes on videos for all of this week and going to history.com and watching some videos and taking a virtual tour. This paper had to be a diary or a letter telling a family member about our expieriences and how we got to ellis island

That is a good idea also.

You may not care, but a lot of states have official year end tests -- In Texas they are called TAKS tests -- here is a link to the online ineractive versions of released tests http://www.tea.state.tx.us/index3.aspx?id=3264&menu_id3=793 In Virginia they are called the SOL's, and there is a free website for them, also. I'm sure NC has one. This will give you an idea of the kinds of "standardized" tests they are using to evaluate yearly progress.
