Open Contest Creative Brooder Contest—17th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Not an entry.
Today, a turkey hen appeared with 13 poults. My turkeys free-range, so I had to make something for them to stay in until the poults are bigger.

I scrounged around and found some 2" x 4" welded wire, some 1" hardware cloth, and some zip ties:

I placed the hardware cloth on top of the 2" x 4" welded wire and zip-tied them together:

Then I stood it up and made a circle and put the hen and her poults in it:

Simple and smart! I'm always thrilled when I can use some of the excess hardware clothing hanging around. And those babies! I didn't realize how tiny turkeys could be. 😍

Upgraded crate found on the side of the road. Hubby cut ply board to fit on the bottom and sides. I lined it with cut open feed bags covered in coffee and tea grounds, and a few dried greens from the garden.
Cut open milk jugs with rocks for feeder, and bricks to waterer.

Very resourceful! :clap

I like how you lined the bottom with feed bags to make cleanup easy. The crate is a great size too. You can obviously fit a lot in there to keep things interesting for them. Thanks for sharing!

The kids have been having fun dropping in worms and watching the game of tackle the man. 🤣
Im planning to move them to the coop at 4 weeks.
