The girl stood behind it watching.

Ace stood atop of a conifer tree to watch, his thick, black talons wrenched deep into it's boughs. He stretched his wings and shook them out, prepared for takeoff, and as prepared to face what surely seemed like his impending death as any.

A black figure crept slowly over the horizon, it's piercing red eyes seemingly gazing through the very souls of it's unfortunate onlookers as it stalked closer, it's body shrouded by shadows and radiating darkness.
