Creepy Crawlies-SPIDERS!!!

Yikes!! I concur with the gas/match method of prevention. I'm going to have nightmares tonight too.

You sound like my mother!

She has a major case of arachnophobia, which is why I am not afraid of them. As a kid I'm the one who had to get the nasty old spider out of her room not vice-versa.

I believe ALL spiders are venomous, the only questions being; are they big enough to actually break the skin of a human and how sensitive is the human to the venom. I have no reaction to a lot of insect bites, such as fleas for example, I don't even itch, however I have a friend who develops big red welts from flea bites. She is just more sensitive to the bite. Wolf spiders are big enough to break skin, but you have to really provoke them. I grew up in a house in the woods next to a stream, Wolf spider nirvana. I actually kept several as pets when I was a child, I caught them in a bare hand and would put them in a small plastic habitat and keep them for weeks at a time. I was almost 20 before I upset one enough for it to actually bite me, I felt the fangs and dropped him before he really sank them in. I don't know how much of a reaction I would have to their bite, and I am not eager to find out. I do a lot of gardening and they run across my legs and hands a lot, but do not try to bite me. You really do have to provoke them a lot to get them mad, they would much prefer to run away from you.
You're either completely crazy, or one brave woman

I tolerate snakes, I have a black racer that I see often. He startles me from time to time but I am happy to just shoo him away. I relocated a small rattle snake last summer, I respect their place in the eco system. I am not afraid of bees or wasps, BUT...palmeto bugs and large spiders are so scary to me.

A few years ago, after leaving the driving range, I had a LARGE spider hitch a ride in my golf bag. He crawled up my seat onto my leg while I was sitting at a red light. I managed to make it into a restaurant parking lot and jump out. I tried to find him for about half an hour before I called my husband to come and drive my car home. He was never able to find the spider, that car was traded in shortly after. I know it sounds crazy, and I'm sure the spider was long gone, but I had such fear and anxiety when I would get in the car I couldn't drive it. So, I guess you could say that I have arachnophobia

I have my mother to thank, seriously. We were on our way home one day and she pulled the car up to the mailbox and got the mail and newspaper out. She had everything in her lap and was looking thru it all, when she got to the newspaper and unfolded it, a huge wolf spider was inside. She screamed and shot it into the air and right into my lap, she was already out of the car till it registered in my head that there was a big spider on my lap. This was when I was around 9 or 10, it was either get used to them or be scarred for life.

Funny story! When my kids were little they were my spider getter's too;-)

Okay they are a little noisy but guinea do eat all the bugs in sight
after that it's off hunting for more .......

The only bird I let go under the house and only one day a month
and the trick is getting them out because of the population
growth of bugs in the summer ....

That's a good idea. What kind of housing and care do they require?

I let them run free as this morning I found them playing with a snake or different parts I should say ...

If you can see the white spot in the background that is them
roosting on the porch and better then a door bell ...

Put out a little corn in the evening and they will always return
but like all birds a fenced in yard is always good for safety
and I have a 6 foot fence to detour predators as guinea do not
have a big S on their chest ....
