Pullets turning into laying Hens teach us PATIENCE
Pullets eventually lay, but they're not hens until one year old. ;)

semantics, maybe, but can be important communication terms when discussing chicken behavior.

Female chickens are called pullets until one year of age, then they are called hens.

Male chickens are called cockerels until one year of age, then they are called cocks(or cockbirds or roosters).

Age in weeks or months is also a good thing to note.

I'm right there with ya. My two older Welsummers are just over 32 weeks. I'm in Texas so weather is warm but days are shorter - we get about 11 1/2 hours of daylight right now. Luna and Leia LOOK like they're ready to lay. Nice red combs and wattles. Not squatting, not laying. And right now not foraging either, since I have 4 new Wellies in quarantine and the older gals would run right over and ruin my quarantine efforts! So I know they're not laying in the bushes somewhere. They'll lay when they lay. Dang birds anyway :he
