You will not get blood when trimming feathers unless it is a growing feather. If you just trim the fully grown ones, it will be ok.
You should be able to see if it is a growing feather (blood feather) by the white covering over top, sometimes you will see the end of the feather poofing out of this covering. When the feather is done growing the covering will come off in flakes.
When a feather is fully grown in, especially n lighter coloured birds, you will be able to see the quill part (shaft) looks hollow.
