Crested Polish chicken behavior with kids?

I had one polish hen and she was a doll, sweeter than candy. She would let you hold her, she was not a spaz, I loved her. Then she had the nerve to die. So I got another (a different color variety) and she is a FREAK! I hate her. She is loud, spastic and unfriendly. So I guess it depends on the bird. They are fun to have around and even for all of Edwina's faults she is still a hoot to watch run around.

I say get some and give them a try.

Murray McMurray sells them sexed so you can order only girls if you do not want any roosters.

I've had two they are no longer with me but they were great. Elvis my roo was a little ruff on the hens at first so they put him in his place he got sick and passed and my Cleo was killed last year by something that got in the coop. Both would come when I called them and they would let me pick them up and cuddle them. I sure miss them both and dont think I will get any polish due to its so hard for them to see, still tender from Elvis and Cleo also BF just wants large egg layers.

I had a Sultan roo who I loved to death. He was friendly and didn't mind when little kids picked him up and was rough with him and he was very intellegent. But I'm going to agree with the others, it's really based mostly on how you handle them as chicks. I spoiled that roo from day one and he had no trouble earning his keep.

But I will also say that I have had no trouble with that of the Polish breed. It's really your choice.

I am concerned about the temperament because my sons love holding chicks/chickens. We have RIR chicks and they carry them all over the place. I started getting hatchery brochures in the mail and the one that intrigued them the most was a White Crested Black Polish....The 2 younger boys are slowly getting over the fear of chickens. I don't want to get them something that will turn on them eventually. ( I heard RIR are pretty nasty so we will see how it goes with them)

We have a 9-month-old polish chicken and she is just the funniest and most curious chicken ever. She will follow us around like a little dog and check out everything we're doing. She endures being held but prefers to sit on an arm or shoulder. She has no fear whatsoever. She walks into the house as if she owns it. She likes to run around with the kids and play chase. She herself will come around and initiate play.

She's also the smartest of our chickens and the leading hen. I have nothing negative to say about this big lady, she's the greatest.

My rooster is a little mean... But Not that mean.
and my grandchildren can hold them, I just get the idea that they would rather not be held.

My polishes were the first chickens that my little brother picked up.
My polish hen is my favorite chicken of all of them! Her name is little Girl. She is very tame, and always comes when I call. Her temperament is wonderful! She is at the bottom of the pecking order, however. And all of the other chickens are really mean to her. She is the smartest chicken of all of them. All of my polishes (exept for rooster

But he IS a rooster...) were/Are very tame. They are a wonderful breed to be around.
