Hi All, I got some sapphire gems at TSC, all seem normal except for one named Moe for his "Mohawk". I have examined his skull and there seems to be nothing abnormal. These pics are a few weeks old but i will post some new ones in the morning. the mohawk has only gotten bigger as it gets older, not like a polish, more like a crested duck. Has anyone come across this before? Any input will be appreciated.

Is a Sapphire Olive Egger. :love What a pretty bird!

Thanks! are these a common thing?

TSC often uses Hoover's Hatchery for their supply of chicks. The Sapphire Gem is one of the breeds they sell. The Sapphire Olive Egger is a relatively new hybrid line that they've developed or is offering. I've never heard of a crested sapphire gem. If you read the link I provided, it is from Hoover's Hatchery website for the Sapphire Olive Egger. In it's description of the bird, it mentions the "tuft of hair on it's head", which describes your bird. Hoover's has developed or is offering (whichever the case may be) lots of new colorful egg laying birds this season.

Thank you very much! now the mystery is solved.
