I live in NYS and am wondering if keeping this breed will be a huge problem. Everything I have been reading says they aren’t cold hardy. We get snow and lots of wind here. But I am going to put up plastic around their run as a wind barrier. I do every year and it seems to work for my other chickens. But this breed is new to me this year. Should I put a heater in their coop?

I don’t think my friend who owned them used a heater. I didn’t ask but considering he lost his entire flock of Lamona bantams to a heat lamp fire before he got the Crevecouers he’d be afraid to heat the Creve barn. We live in Wisconsin.

And his do just fine in the cold? I only have two and they would be in a coop and run.

This is what he (Jeremy Trost) said: “Depends on the line. Mine were very hardy, never had issues. However, some of the hatchery lines are pretty inbred and weak, especially McMurray, at least they were a few years ago. They may have introduced another line to their flock to correct the problem since then.”

I got mine from Greenfire farms. I’m their rare breed assortment. I’ll make sure to keep a close eye on them to be sure. Thank you very much.
