I bought several Crevecoeur and Brabanter chicks in the spring. Unfortunately, some of my chicks did not turn the way the breed standards sad. Some of my Crevecoeurs and Brabanters do not have beard and muffs. Few Brabanters has Polish crest. I am wonder how genetic works on beard, muffs and the right way crest. Are these genes dominant? Could I breed the wrong looks out? Why the chicks did not turn all the same? Also, why a lot of my chicks have beak and toes deformities?
Thank you for your help

Where did you get them from? It sounds like a bad breeder or just hatchery stock.

Brabanters should not have a crest like a Polish. It is much smaller and it's one of the reason I got some since it does not obscure their vision like the crests of some other breeds.

Crests and beard/muffs are dominant. However to get exhibition quality birds I would suggest buying them from a reputable breeder, then compare the birds and their offspring to the SOP.

Thank you for your info.
I did get them from hatchery. I will select the best one. I am hoping the offspring will look like they supposed to.
I had little luck to find reputable breeder. Perhaps, you can help me to point into right direction. I am looking for Crevecouers and Brabanters.

Speaking from my experiences with Brabanters, they are a work in progress. Genetically, there is very little to work with so other breeds, notably Polish and Appenzeller, were added to the mix. Now comes the hard work to breed to the SOP and reduce the glaring characteristics that they added. I have yet to see pictures of breeders birds that are uniform in appearance, feathering, size, shank color... We have generations to go to get there. There are a handful of breeders out there. Look for them on FB. Buy the best eggs you can find from 2 or more breeders. Mark the hatchlings, grow them out and start from there.
