You could always look into farming crickets. I've been researching it as a food staple for my chooks, and it doesn't look to be an expensive or complicated setup and system.

I was wondering about actually catching and feeding crickets so I did a search lol. Did you have any luck? I feel like we have a cricket infestation here. My kids go out for an hour and catch TONS of them but I usually make them turn their bug cage over at the end of the day. Suddenly today I had the epiphany of hmmm maybe I should tell them to dump them in the run and let the birds go wild. Double win, kids will eagerly catch them and stay occupied for HOURS if i let them and then the chickens get extra protein and some running around to catch them
