Crime and the economy

You are exactly right and unfortunately they don't have the foresight to consider that they could be in that position someday. Even though they would never admit it they will feel real stupid if that happens. Fact is in 10 years at the current rate of increase health care cost are expected to be double what they are now. Right now 1 in every 6 dollars spent in the US is spent on health care. In 10 years that is expected to be 1 in 3 dollars. Open your eyes people.

Beak, I really resent your implication that i dont have the foresight to know what i need in my life! I find your words very condescending! And i HAVE been in the position to not have insurance..I dont have it now! But i STILL do not want to be told by my state that i have to have insurance or they will screw with my state taxes! BUT yet..i can STILL pay taxes every pay check and support everyone on welfare in my state? No, sorry thats BS! sorry..but dont speak for others..speak only for YOURSELF, PLEASE! Just becasue YOU think something should be..does NOT mean that you are 100% right on the matter and everyone else is an idiot! UGH!

I am not sure where you got that number, but this is directly from the IRS site:

SE tax rate. The self-employment tax rate is 15.3%. The rate consists of two parts: 12.4% for social security (old-age, survivors, and disability insurance) and 2.9% for Medicare (hospital insurance).

That is on top of the regular income tax, which your employer does not help pay since you are not an employee. It costs more than 8.1% more.

Your employer does not help you pay your income tax. It is directly withheld from your wages.

Your employer does not help pay income tax. He or she just deducts what your w-4 indicates. Your employer actually pays half of your FICA and Medicaid. That's why self employed people pay a little more. Some people don't realize that there is a difference between income tax and Fica/medicaid. Fica/medicaid is a savings account for when you become an old fart or are disabled. It is not a tax.

Been listening to Fox and friends? That station has been putting out more than the usual amount of compost on this health plan. There are very few small businesses that make enough to get taxed extra. This plan will help small businesses and their employees by providing affordable health care.

By the way, I said my health plan cost 1200 a month. I pay 500 my employer pays 700. It is a fairly good plan but not a Cadillac plan. I couldn't afford to pay 1200. Yes there is a lot of waste and fraud in government. Until they get rid of lobbyist there will always be waste and fraud. In the private sector there is just as much money spent. Difference is that it all goes to the fat cats.

Sorry Red. Wasn't meant that way. If you want to put words in my mouth you should probably send a PM.

I've been watching Fox and friends. And reading the MSN political and money pages. And reading the Arizona Republic. And reading the New York Times. And listening to NPR. And Garrison Keillor. And Dr. Laura. And Glenn Beck. I've been watching Larry King Live, but gave up after 2 weeks of MJ. I've been watching Headline News, 20/20, and 2 of the local news programs.

Bu it doesn't matter. If my opinion leans to the side of the 'right', then all anyone needs to say is "You've been listening to Fox and Friends".

Yeah. So?

If you all are going to argue, point fingers and generally not play well with others, I am going to close this thread.

This has been a good thread so far. Please don't blow it.

Thank you very much.
