Crime and the economy

My husband has a prescription for Humira. That stuff is several thousand dollars per dose. He takes one dose every two weeks.

If we didn't have health insurance, we'd be living in a cardboard box...or something like that...or he'd be taking something cheaper that didn't work as well and probably be sick all the time.

I'm not surprised people who are ill and can't afford their medications would maybe feel desperate enough to steal. They're sort of caught between a rock and a hard place, maybe. It doesn't make the stealing right...it's just a sad situation. People don't wish themselves to be sick.

Well I am currently unemployed and can not find a job no matter what I do!There are jobs here, but so many people are applying that it is very hard to actually get a job. If over 100 people apply for a fast food opening, then you know jobs are scarce. I am too old to have more children, so I guess I won't get the free food either!

I need medication for high blood pressure and a couple other things, and I can't even go to a doctor for the pescriptions. We make too much money for the free clinic and not enough for a regular doctor.

Although I do have toa dd that my boys are on Medical Assitance thru the state because the Family plan at my job is almost my entire paycheck each month, and since we dont know where their dad is they qualify. That's been a lifesaver, but I pay for my own insurance and DH pays for his plus all of our dental at his job. I know its hard because not only is there a shortage of jobs period, but especially jobs that have good insurance benefits. people need health care, they NEED medications, but there needs to be a way to do it without taking the skin off the back of the people who are working hard just to pay for their own.

I think everyone would agree that there is nothing wrong with getting a helping hand when needed, its the people that choose to not help themselves (other then putting their hand out once a month) are the ones that "burn our butts!"

maybe they needed the BP med because their life of crime was so stressful
;-)

just kiddin.

and yes its getting bad all around. did you see last nite on the news how many folks are about to be foreclosed on!?!? and then the big banks posted huge profits!?!? that, friend, is the real crime.

The REALLY sad part is a lot of these medications would be unnecessary if people avoided the foods that cause their illness in the first place. This is the same foods that gvmt subsidizes heavily.

If the country could get rid of the dead weight, the rest of us would thrive.

There are people working every day to make sure there is plenty of dead weight and it stays permanently chained to the productive people

They are even robbing the pawn shops around here. My DH has been unemployed for nearly 2 months and its pitiful. We NEVER expected HIM to get laid of, but it happened and now we are trying to make it. Good thing I have a big garden and am thrifty to begin with. But that still doesnt pay the bills. The unemployment he gets is all we have and in MS its not much at all. We have thought long and hard about what if people came to our house and started raiding the pasture where all the livestock is. I have the gates double locked and barb wire in place, but I also have a clear shot from the porch to the pasture too. It's supposed to get worse before it gets better, so you better make good with your neighbors while you can because good neighbors and family will be MORE important than ever.
