Crime and the economy

My cousin and her DH are were unemployed until recently, neither have ever been unemployed before. His current job is seasonal, based upon the tourism industry, so it will end in a couple of months. He has childhood diabetes and is insulin dependent. Even with the insulin he has had life and death emergencies, costing thousands. Because of his pre-existing condition, he is uninsurable. No one will cover him. They are paying for his insulin out of their already meager finances.

These are not dead beats. They are working, like most of the uninsured. But, those pre-existing conditions clauses keep many from getting even marginal insurance.

My cousin and her husband have a great family support network, we will never see him die from not being able to buy insulin. But, they are fortunate. Stealing is wrong, that's for sure, but to be driven to that because of fear of death in a loved one is horrendous.

Of course, they could just be stealing to sell the drugs. Who knows?

My DH and I both work for the same not for profit company. We have always lived like we could be laid off tomorrow, because its always been the case. We have become prepared for that by becoming completely debtfree just incase. Hopefully, that will help if it ever does happen and I wont be stealing my BP meds from the local drugstore.

Ouch! Unfortunately, this is soooooo true.

It would really help if people would take personal responsibility for their actions than relying on the government for all their needs and feeling as if they deserved it.

My husband is a type 1 diabetic, and we have insurance. Thank God, but when he's in between appts and runs out, he gets the generic from the pharmacy. That costs 20.00 a bottle and he has to get both bottles. So we're talking 40.00-yet another ouch!

we were ready for it when my hubby got laid off.... so we werent surprised. no we are having the time of our lives. and getting a lot done.

its hard to watch people pretend it wont affect them.

my sister and her hubby are oh.. 2 missed paychecks from living on the street. for now they both have jobs... and they got their kids all new electronics for their birthdays - and are going on a cruise. i think their 'fall back plan' is to live with us.

i told her that 'everybody plucks' here - for now its keeping them away

I am so glad I live in canada!

We use alot of meds for my son and husbands asthma and eczema and with all of that (including birth control) I think I pay $14 a month.

The government charges you a flat rate for health care here and the rate is determined by your family income. Because my husband is a contractor and they go off of last years income taxes we are covered but if we made more we would pay more
