It's sad that people have to be afraid of dying for lack of health insurance. When I was growing up I always heard that America was the greatest country in the world. We need to make some changes if we want to keep that title. Our daughter is diabetic and she is covered. The first time we got her prescriptions filled for testing supplies and insulin the bill was 700.00. Walgreens said we would have to pay 450 of it. Fortunately we got it straightened out. She doesn't use all her Humalog each month so we have a surplus bottle every 4 months or so. We found some destitute under employed people that need it.
The house already has one drafted. The Senate will be changing it and adding a bunch of garbage as usual to get signatures. Now that there's 60/40 in the Senate it should get through without a major problem. All they need is a simple majority. There are 3 different versions. I'm pretty sure it's going to happen this time.

WHat, National Health Care? Like Canada? Is that what they are trying to pass?

No, it's not like Canada. If you are uninsured you will be able to buy insurance at a reduced rate depending on income and family size. There will be a public option which is a bunch of different plans that can be purchased through the gov. It will be portable and will stay with you with the same benefits wherever you move in the US. If you have insurance already you can keep it. Hopefully the price will go down because the gov plans will cost less and have better coverage with lower co-pays and deductibles. All the govt offered plans will have no waiting period for coverage and will have no exclusions for pre-existing conditions.
There is a lot of fear mongering on this. The big health carriers are afraid of the competition and are worried about losing their huge profits. United Health cares CEO has a contract for 1.7 Billion dollars in compensation over the next 10 years. Makes you wonder why health insurance is so expensive.
I think they already offer this in MA.(because we have to have insuranse in this state..or it affects your taxes) ..If i remember correctly, the rate they charge for insurance isnt that cheap at all!

That's what I was going to say. But then I decided better of it.
Me too. But, I am scared too, because I surely don't want to offend anyone, but its why Illinois is in such distress at the moment. It's one thing to need help for a short duration, until you get on your feet, quite another to milk the system for every single little thing. It is rampant where I live, and still the little kids are going without so the parents can have their smokes, drinks and fun things.

We had a similar plan "healthy families" where if you were broke enough you could get coverage for your kids at $20 per month per kid, but that program got funding cut bad, and it isn't taking any more kids, and is phasing out some kids who were already covered.
