Crime: Why does anyone even bother?

If only, there was a penal colony somewhere, where we could send them, and just let them fare for themselves.

There are enough laws on the books, that if the state wants to bring the hammer down, on an individual, everyone of us could be in jail, today, and that is the power of the police state.

Too many unregistered vehicles, in my yard.
Dog not wearing her tag.
Probably, too many chickens, on my 3/4 acre.
Well, unregistered, and too close to the road.
Block chicken house being built, without a permit or certified design.

I am sorry if my statement offended you it was not intended to do so maybe I should have used a smiley icon. My point is that other people read these posts that never reply or chime in and I was simply giving a more broad view of Ghandi and his reasons for the quote you corrected the other poster for using improperly. Pantheism in a nutshell is God is everything Earth, animals, sky bla, bla bla... which is why India being a highly advanced country has an enormous poverty problem because they will not kill a rat but rather worship it. Rats consume over 1/3 of their food source. No harm no fowl eh?

I have a brother who shot and killed someone who was shooting at him first. I don't know who it was, and don't know if he knew who it was, but that is one unsolved murder. There was a lot of them and he split. I'm not afraid to go to his house, sleep with the door open, eat what he cooks. He is a good person.

Let me shed some new light on this thread.

There are varying degrees of criminals in society. You and I are (probably) in the first class. You know, class C misdemeanors like rolling a stop sign, running a red light; stuff like that. Those things are against the law and I don't know anyone who hasn't done these things at least as an accidental action. We go to court or pay the fine and go on with our lives and it really doesn't interrupt our daily activities; we can continue with our consistancy in society.

Second are the more serious misdemeanors; class B and A where there is the possibility of going to jail for a while as punnishment for the crime. These would be like writing a hot check and not taking care of it, simple assault or possessing drug paraphenalia. These crimes may take us out of our regular lives for a long enough time to interrupt a regular social/economical schedule. Most people can recover from this punishment and go on to lead a fairly consistant life.

The last and most severe crimes, the felonies, can interrupt your life for years or forever. Much more serious punishment that will interrupt your life and that of your family possibly forever. Dangerour drugs (using or selling), agrivated assault, murder - things that can ruin your or someone else's life possibly forever whether you are caught and punished or not. Where do you fit in to these catagories?

We are what we consistantly do. That is a true statement. People can change; of course they can. We choose every day who we are going to be. Your past is not your potential, however it is a measuring stick of where you 'fit' into society.

I assure you, most of the felons that I work with are just one or two bad decisions away from you or me...
