Do you have some painters tape? If not can you get some? It's not as sticky so it won't pull the chicks skin off when you remove it.
I took a small square of tape, then you press the chicks toes out straight on the tape, then you put another small square of tape on top and press it down to seal it.
You need to carefully trim some of the excess tape off.
This worked for my duckling that was doing that! She was 4 days old and I thought it was too late, but it wasn't! After a week I took off the tape, planning to replace the tape but I didn't need to because she was all better.
