Good morning. I have a chick that hatched yesterday afternoon. Unassisted, but she really struggled. She was very sticky, thinking maybe ruptured her yolk sac?? I don’t really know, regardless, there is definitely something very wrong with her little legs and she can’t stand. Her hocks seem fixed in flexion and her toes are all hyperextended. Doesn’t look like the descriptions I’ve seen of spraddle leg or curled toes, etc. What is this, and is it fixable, or should I just euthanize the poor little thing???

Chick is still in very good spirits. Eating and drinking well if supported. But hocks are still contracted and toes seem hyperextended. Any thoughts on splints, or maybe weights on the legs for traction for this one??? Any thoughts appreciated.

My now 1 yr old roo has the same prob with the hocks. try very gently feeling the joints of the hocks, might be an out-of-place tendon. Try wrapping them with some soft cloth or medical tape.
