We came home from church and I checked on everybody (we have 19 chickens) and found my favorite hen splay-legged in the straw on the floor. The top of her beak is swollen and bloody. She is struggling to breathe, and there are clear bubbles on the inside of her mouth (like bubbly saliva). I put her in quarantine for now. She is 4 1/2 months old and has gotten along pretty well with everybody. She is normally very compliant and stays out of everyone's way--definitely not a dominant type. Please help--don't know what to do. Here is a picture of my poor sweet little girl.

Clean the area with a damp paper towel or rag. You could also dab some Neosporin (antibiotic ointment) on the skin (not the nostril!) Keep the hen comfortable.

I don't know whether to apply Blu-kote in this area or not.

Too late. She is gone. I am heartbroken. She was my favorite hen, always running up to me to have her topknot gone through. Such a lover. :(
