So, are you saying that just because someone breeds for egg color, they can't possibly care about other traits in the breed? And that it is impossible for eggs to be this color just because you haven't seen them? No, they aren't that quite that bright. For some reason after I uploaded the picture, it is showing up brighter. I have seen eggs simular to this color. I have seen pink. I have seen aqua. Rare, yes. They were all from Easter Eggers but it is possible. I am not expecting eggs from the chickens I hatch to be exactly like this. But I like the different colors. Why does it matter if someone likes egg color instead of feathered feet? Or size over auto sexing? Why do you think one trait is more important than another if it is not harming the chicken? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For me, most important is the health and happiness of my chickens.

Because I've seen that obsession with egg color ruin other breeds (Maran, Ameracauna) and I'm hoping the Langshan doesn't become one of them because I've spent a significant portion of my life promoting the breed. And also in this case it's not like an Aracauna or Ameraucana, the "plum" color that people have started mentioning is a misconception and a myth. There is nothing in the oldest texts of the breed to suggest that this is in fact a thing. There is a slight tint maybe. I just try to stop ignorance in a breed I care a great deal about.

Sacrificing production qualities like size (or egg production) for egg color, especially when it is NOT and NEVER HAS BEEN a trait of the breed, is a horrible thing. It was just a caution, there has been a lot of false truths passing around online lately and didn't want to see a new breeder taken in by a bunch of BS. I was offering some kind advice to a newcomer to the breed.

Some Marans hens are known to occassionally lay a similarly colored egg,,, due to excessive bloom, problem being that many have come to the conclusion that those unusually colored eggs do not hatch. I've had a marans hen here that layed such an egg, and while entertaining in it's difference in color, found this to be true. Fortunately her regular, dark eggs would hatch, but never the excessive bloom eggs. Time will tell if her femaly offspring will carry this unusual color, although I didn't hatch her eggs for the unusual color,,,, just hatched her eggs because she was a nice example of the breed and had good regular egg color.

It took me awhile but I finally found someone that had the plum bloom. Here is a picture from her Facebook page. She said these are from her chickens. I found her mentioned on here. My eggs arrived in excellent condition and they are due to hatch tomorrow. 13 out of 15 made it to lockdown. My eggs were not this bright because it is the end of the 'season'. They almost look orange but the genetics are still there. I'm keeping my fngers, toes and eyes crossed that the hatch goes well.

Who is the breeder, how did your hatch end up? Do you have photos? Thank you!

What I think doesn't matter. The historical records say the Langshan lays a dark brown egg. Occasional with a bloom. It also says that they were prized for their productivity not for egg color.

i have blue black and white croad langshans, i will probably start selling their eggs late fall or early next spring once I get the birds sorted out that I want to use as my best breeders

What you read is correct. "Purple" eggs are a fancy story that people use to hustle uneducated folks. The Langshan breed lays brown eggs, occasionally have a bloom on them that some mistake as "purple", but it isn't a defining characteristic of the breed. Never has been, never will be.
