If you look up the egg color for Croad Langshans, it states that they are a brown egg layer. Almost every site, including some hatcheries, also state that under certain conditions, as in dampness on the egg, rinsing, etc, the eggs will appear purple or raspberry colored but the color is usually short lived and it not a true color for the breed. I have seen many pictures of these eggs that appear to be a light raspberry color. I have a buff orpington who lays a lighter tan egg and when she first lays them, they 'appear' very pale lavender until I rinse or refrigerate them. I don't think it is a fancy story as much as it is just a perception of those that have them and actually see the color. As for my buff orpington, she is still young and hopefully, her eggs will not only get bigger but a darker tan/brown. My Black Star lays a darker brown egg appearing sometimes as it if is a terra cotta color. Love her egg color. What you read is correct. "Purple" eggs are a fancy story that people use to hustle uneducated folks. The Langshan breed lays brown eggs, occasionally have a bloom on them that some mistake as "purple", but it isn't a defining characteristic of the breed. Never has been, never will be.
