Hey all you expert crocheters out there....I have a pattern question that is driving me nuts. This seems like a fairly straight-forward cable pattern, but for some reason...I'm just not "getting" it. Here's the pattern: ........work 22 sc evenly across each square (granny squares joined in a strip), turn-110 sts. Row 2 (wrong side) Ch3 (counts as first dc), [Dc in front loop of next st, dc in back loop of next st] 9 times, dc in front loop of next st, *work Cable over the next 4 sts as follows: skip next 2 sts, dc in both loops of next 2 sts, dc in both loops of first skipped st, dc in both loops of second skipped st, [DC in front loop of next st, dc in back loop of next st] 9 times, rep from * to last 2 sts, dc in front loop of next st, dc through both loops of last st, turn.

OK...so my ? is: I do this and I am counting 107 sts...does this sound right?? I guess I don't understand why I am chaining 3 to count as my first DC. I am up to row 6 now and holding steady at 107 sts in each row and it looks OK, I guess...but it is right?

Hope someone can decipher it...

Thanks,
Leah

Ok well first off how many granny squares does the pattern call for, and how big is each square suppose to be? And what size hook did the pattern call for? I find sometimes that it calls for one size of hook but in order for me to get the square the right size I have to use a different size due to the fact that I have a habit of making my sts so small. That may be the problem, but if the pattern is working out nicely for you at 107 then I would not worry about it. Feel free to post on the BYC crochet club thread you don't have to be in the swap to just come over and talk and have fun we're all just a bunch of chicken crazy crocheters that like to keep in touch and share advice and patterns and ideal's on just about everything and every one is friendly. Kinda crazy we are but loads of fun! hope this helps if not I am sure the other gals will be posting behind me shortly. Mawchickkidie

No, it is not a size issue. My gauge is fine. I am just having a hard time "figuring" out the pattern. I'll keep trying!

Hi,
I think your doing it right. If it looks right and is crocheting up right then it probably is right. Maybe they are counting the ch 3 as 3 sts.
