I did a few of those years ago. they are great, make great gifts too.

we also found that you can do this with scrape yarn, you just use 4-6 strands of yarn, and you tie all the scrapes together to make your different balls.

they worked well and sold well.

You can make "toothbrush" rugs with rags too. You don't need to know how to crochet. Way easy. Google it.

I've made toothbrush rugs ( a needle made from an old toothbrush) from old nylon hose....learned when I was 10 in Camp Fire.

Also learned how to make crocheted rag rugs and wool braided rugs from my grandmother and great grandmother.

These are great longlasting rugs and you can use old clothing too besides your fabric scraps. I'm teaching one of my granddaughters how to sew a toothbrush rug. and later when she has mastered crochet, we will work on a crocheted rug.

Last winter my addiction of choice was the" tooth brush rag rug" I found that U Tube video and away i went ...since then my family and friends have been dropping off garbage bags filled with old clothes for me to make them a "family " rag rug ....

I origionally went looking om U tube for something to do with all the Hay twine we have from feeding the horses....I am now making witch wigs ......

just curious....did anyone ever finish one of these? I started one last winter, then put it down and forgot it. I just picked it up again. This is it so far.

It takes a LOT of fabric to make one of these. I'm using wool, which is pretty expensive. I think I could have bought a wool rug for cheaper. I'm thinking it may be time to buy old wool pants and coats at the thrift shop.
