Hi one of my bantams I think has a clog crop, she has been off for about 5 days now. I tipped her unside down and a smellie liquid ozzed from her mouth. I have put ACV in her water and given her yogurt and some olive oil and have been trying to massage her crop every hour. Tomorrow I was going to give her Nystatin but don't know how much to give her, is there anyone out there who can help. Also I have read you can use continie crystals as a tonic for chickens, how much do i use of that?

Crop bound....be sure you are withholding feed until the crop is cleared up. The oil down the throat may take a time or two to take effect. Be sure not to let her get the oil in the windpipe or death will occur almost immediately. Oil and massage the crop, oil and message, and after the crop is cleaned out, medicate and keep her on some "soft" foods for a while, ease her back in to any hard grains. I usually follow with a dose or two of tetracycline pills after the crop is clear, then some yogurt, etc. to replace the good bacteria and then ease her back on to grains, taking care to watch that she doesn't bind up again....good luck....

Actually, because of the smelly liquid that comes out, this sounds more like sour crop to me. I believe a lot of people just empty the crop of the liquid daily, though I can't be sure because I have never dealt with this partucular issue.

Does she have a "hard, lumpy, claylike" mass in her crop? If she does, and the massaging does not make it go away, I might suggest going to the "Emergencies, Injuries, Cures" section and perusing the Crop Operation sticky.

This is a first time for me , so I really don't know where the crop is ,I have seen picture diagrams but that is all, all I hope is that I am massaging the right spot . There is a small lumb just under her breast, I hope I have the right lump?.Thanks so much to everyone who have given me advice I really appreciate it.

I am sorry to tell you all this but my hen passed away last night. Thank you so much for all the advice, I am very thankful. Tina
