So we’ve had these chicks for a week now. Today while “making friends” with water soaked chick feed, I noticed Shadow’s lower beak is slightly “off center”. Of course, she’s one of my favorites already and culling is out of the question unless it becomes too hard of a life for her.

I have no issues with having special needs. From everything I’ve read (never had a cross-beak though), nipple waterers are out though. So that throws off my entire watering plan in the run outside.

What else do I need to plan ahead for?

Deep feeders had been a suggestion I read a lot when I noticed my girls cross beak. Depending on how bad the cross beak gets those would be necessary. But my Beakers gets along just fine with our overez feeder. Otherwise I don’t think there’s much else you need to do. They’re just like every other chicken. I had read somewhere that cross beak chickens can’t peck. What a lie that is. Beakers can peck just fine and shows it by going after her sisters. To the point where her comb is bleeding but she still doesn’t back down. Stubborn little lady she is.
