cross breed red cochin/black dutch is this a good idea ?

Goldish birchen would be black with the hackle and saddle feathers being black with gold lacing. The females would be black with gold lacing on the neck. There is a good chance of birchen pattern if I remember correctly.

I have 3 from a Black dutch hen and a Black Cochin. Had 5 originally, but sold 2.

They are a combination of types.

Wide long body, with a few foot feathers.
Wide short body, with lots of foot feathers.
Slim body, longer, with lots of foot feathers.

All 3 types are heavy little chunks. The ones wide like cochins are still filled out like a dutch, which makes them really heavy for their size.

They are the broodiest birds that you will find. 2 of them only laid 6-7 eggs before they went broody at 5 months old. I have not let them set yet, but from they act they would be great little mommas.

My 3 are pets that just live with my Mutt flock. They hit 2 years old this year.

Matt
