I’m sure this has been covered somewhere here. I just can’t find the thread. I am getting some silver laced wyandottes, both hens and roosters. As well as some buff Orpington hens this coming week. I am trying to wrap my head around the passing of colors. And genetics of chickens. Am I understanding correctly, the lacing gene will be lost on the first few generations of offspring from this cross? Also what will they be similar to as for coloring? “Chicken breeding for dummies?” Is there a book like that which would cover these questions thank you in advance

I only crossed them once, and I got a buff Columbian and a white Columbian. They had rose combs. I don't think there's any genetic experts on this site. You will need to run your own experiments I guess.

I don't think there is a book of genetics for dummies, I would buy one.
But, IMHO, crosses are nothing more than barnyard mixes and the resultant chickens' characteristics are anybody's guess.
