Hi y’all!

I️ recently got 2 Coturnix females to keep my California male company. They are all the same size and get along really well. They are all around the same age as well. Is there any chance that I️ can hatch out eggs in the future? Hypothetically, it should work, but I’m not sure.

Also, can I please get a briefing on how the color combos work on the Coturnix? I️ have a blonde (I️’m pretty sure, she has white feathers with black spots) and a brown one that looks like the pictures on the internet.

Thank you!

Coturnix are in the family Phasianidae, with pheasants and chickens as relatives. New world quail are Odontophoridae and are not very closely related at all to Coturnix quails. Even with artificial insemination chicken to quail only about 1% of fertile eggs (I think 14/1,500 eggs in one study) hatched and most died young. I would imagine an less related bird would even less able to fertilize Coturnix eggs.

Your Coturnix are Pearl Fee (Italian + Fee) and Wildtype also called Pharaoh.
