If I put a Japanese Bantam rooster into a flock of normal sized mixed breed laying hens, what will I get?
(which traits in the offspring will be determined by the father and which by the mother?)

Will the offspring be Bantam size, normal size or in between?
Will the offspring (if female) lay eggs at the rate of a Japanese Bantam (poorly, that is) or like my laying hens or in between?
Will the offspring be broody like Bantams or less so?
Is the body shape more determined by the father or the mother?

Thanks for any input.

Mine is a black tailed white. So far, the offspring seem to be feather sexing (males are white/lighter colored, females other colored). They are bantam sized. My most recent one is EE (the other two eggs didn't make it). The chick - a male - got the columbian neck pattern and comb and a bit of gold coloring from his mom, but the white and black and size from dad. I haven't kept any except this last boy, so I can't say about laying and broodiness in the females. I've only had two Japanese hens. One went broody at 5 months old and has been perpetually broody, only laying for maybe 10-14 days after weaning chicks before going broody again. The other had very little interest in brooding until about 9 or 10 months old and laid like clockwork before that. I know broodiness is heritable, but I don't know if it's passed by the mother or the breeds in general - if that makes sense.

@SunHwaKwon , thanks. Sounds good. There are these 1 year old Japanese Bantams for sale - I've been thinking about them for weeks but they only sell them in pairs. I would like to get a trio (1 roo and 2 hens) for proper pure breeding. But that would leave me with an extra rooster that comes with the second hen. So maybe a good way to put him to some use would be to throw him in with my laying mutts to get some "Japanese style" bantam mutts. If they make half-way decent layers and broodies, maybe that's even something worth carrying on.
