I currently have Rhode Islands Reds, Easter egger, Speckled Sussex and Cinnamon queens in my flock. I am going to hatch some of my own soon (once the snow starts melting!) My rooster is an Easter egger. What do you call the breeds when you mix them? I would love to get a few Easter eggers crossed with my speckles.

The resulting chicks will be Easter Eggers. If you hatch enough pullet chicks you will find out if your cock carries 2 blue egg genes or only 1. If he carries 2 blue egg genes then all offspring will lay green eggs. If he carries only 1 blue egg gene half of the resulting pullets will lay green eggs and the other half of the resulting pullets will lay brown eggs.

This genetic stuff is very interesting, but seems beyond my brain's understanding. My Maggie is broody and is setting on one egg of her own (she's a Buff Orpington) one Delaware egg and one Easter Egger egg. The rooster is a beautiful white Jersey Giant (Harvey). I'm wondering what I'll get, assuming they are all fertile. I need to get a candler. Tomorrow is day 12.

I have an EE roo myself and a mixed flock. A Barnevelder (Cocoa), Buff Brahma (Miss. brown), Silver laced Wyandotte (Dak), 1 blue and 1 black Andalusian (Blue and Rocket)and a Calico Princess (Princess Layer). Now that we have our first eggs my 8 year old is asking about babies! Most of them will lay brown or white eggs. So If Hedwig (EE) is successful at fertilizing any egg, I successfully keep them alive until they lay, their eggs would be a barnyard mix right?
