A little birdy told me to post over here, original is on the predators board.

We are considering getting a dog to guard our chickens. I have been doing some research and ran across this breed. Now looking for opinions, and experiences. Share?

Could we get an adult? Would a puppy be better? Pros/cons?

I am guessing if watchdogps doesn't see this post you might want to PM them. They seem to know a lot about Anatolians.

I see it!
KristyAz - need lots more info about your specific situation before I could say if an LGD would be appropriate and then if an ASD would be your best match. Let's start with:
Size of property/area to be patrolled? Fenced, and if so, how?
Types of predators?
What types of dogs have you had before and what did you like or dislike about them?

Also, if an ASD is a good match and you'd like to meet some, I know a few ASD owners in AZ, including one from my first litter

I might add that I am not a little birdy

Hello!

We have just over 1 acre.

It is not fenced at all at this time, but we would do whatever would be appropriate.

Predators are hawks, coyotes, bobcats.

I have never had a dog. My husband has had an akita and a husky as pets. Beagles for hunting.
