I know that chickens are identified by look even on the show level, but should genetics be considered if a Coss is a look alike to another breed that was not in its parentage?

Hi there. :frow

Interesting question.

To me if what you're asking is can you pass off a fake.. I will say you can try! There are often tell tell things that an untrained eye will miss but when you get down to the nitty gritty may be easily discernible especially to someone very familiar with a specific breed. ;)

But it depends on what you are asking should be considered... showing, breeding, or something else all together? Pics welcome! :pop

Genetics should evidently be considered if you plan on using such a bird in a breeding program. As for shows, far worse things have been done.

I happen to have a pullet that looks like a barred rock from a red barred mix and possibly my black sex link. I certainly have no intention of telling people it is a barred rock. I was just thinking about it when people were trying to tell someone their bird was a completely different breed because the leg color was wrong. They were asking about gender not breed.
