Crossbreeding...?

I see now and yes it is possible, but the opposite has been done in the hatchery biz. They don't like broodies and it isn't condusive to their profit margins so their breed contractors have been instructed to breed it out of them through many crosses. So yes you can breed it back if you wanted.

Ya my family has always liked having hens with chicks aournd our house. Sunds good, I think I'm gonna do that

But it will be a while, my chickens are still too young to even lay

I think they should be, but for some reason they seem to have developed slow.

My silkie roo wouldn't try.. He only goes after my silkie hen

But if he can successfully breed with her, why not try? Nothing wrong with a weird looking chicken

Would really like to see the kind of chick this produces!

I am really new to chickens, but this is what I was thinking too.....about leghorns. They lay so many eggs! I don't believe a day hardly passes by that my girls do not lay an egg. I would love to breed broodiness into leghorns. I am really naive about breeding, but I thought a leghorn (super egg layer) who would hatch some eggs would be really great. This is really what got me interested in breeding in the first place. I love the idea of a momma chicken raising the babies.

Come on. A white leghorn and a pretty silkie wouldn't look that bad! Would it?? Call it an experiment. Take the best layer and the most broody and see what comes out.
