crossbreeding

As stated, ducks can breed with ducks. What you should think about is the size difference. I Pekin drake is very large and a Runner hen is less than half his size. Keeping ducks of such size difference together can be dangerous especially if the females are smaller. A better option would be to have large breed females and a smaller drake.

Yes to this! Generally hybrids ARE great ducks, but with such a size and weight difference in your case, it might be prudent to keep them separated or sell/trade for another with similar build characteristics.

I have buffs, runners, pekin, cuyoga and mallard and they do cross breed. The buff and chocolate runner female produced offspring this year..I had several runners but for some reason that is not the mate that chose her. The runners were hatched a couple weeks ago and are doing fine. They have the runner carictaristics at this point, are chocolate in color (this may change when they feather out) but are very healthy and strong with no defects. The buff is a heavier stockier breed, but the runner traits are definitly the dominant gene. My cuyogas cross breed with the mallards on occassion..which also comes up with a healthy duck.

Cool so if they did it wouldn't be to big of a problem usually. I already traded my pekin to a neighbor but o well I got a runner hen.

My mixed duck, that hatched under a Khaki Campbell lays beautiful huge eggs! And she is big and meaty too. Black feathers and bill, with white bib and wing tips, like a Sweedish.

Yes, cross breeding is possible! I have a male Swedish Blue and a female Rouen that are constantly mating! I've been incubating the Rouen's eggs (30 or so) and the first three eggs hatched with no problems! They're developing and learning very quickly, and they are strong and healthy! They look just like Swedish Blue ducklings but with some Rouen markings on their face and wings. I can't wait to see what they'll look like when they're older!
