Crossed beak and missing an eye????

Urban Mama, you have just made a decision that is very hard and I am sorry it turned out that way for you. Your little chick was facing a very difficult life and while it could have possibly overcome the birth defects , it would have had to struggle. When you decide to raise chickens one of the hardest things is to make the decision to breed for healthy, hearty chicks no matter what. Your little one would not be one you would ever want to have in the gene pool. It sounds harsh but we need to remember about natural selection that would take place if we were not involved in the process.

When I first started I wanted to save them all not matter what. I now know that my flock health on the whole is much more important. I have learned to cull.
