Crosses using Australorp and Easter Egger roos

Hello,

I have a mixed flock with a number of breeds…I have two roosters, an Australorp and an Easter egger. Are there any cool crosses I can make? Are there any breeds that would create sex link chicks with these roosters? Thank you.

If the Australorp is black, you could cross him to any hens with white barring and get sexlink chicks: sons will be barred (black with a light dot on top of the head at hatch) and daughters will not be barred (black with no light dot on top of the head at hatch.) For producing chicks like this, possible hens would include Barred Rock, Cuckoo Marans, Cream Legbar, Bielefelder.

Easter Eggers come in many different colors. If you post a picture, it may be possible to figure out if he can sire sexlink chicks with some kind of hen or if he cannot.

What hens do you have? That could help us.

But NatJ is correct, the Easter Egger could be any color or pattern. Often they are mixes, not with pure genetics. Saying you have an EE doesn't really narrow anything down. But a photo could help, especially if we know which hens you have. I'd be looking for a hen with silver if he looks pure for gold.

Daughters from this cross will probably lay green eggs, but there is a chance of some daughters laying brown eggs.
