Hi all. I have the opportunity to get some light brahma pullets. I will not be able to get a roo. There is someone close that is selling orpington roos and NH red roos.

My main criteria is hens, being decent layers (i have leghorns for table eggs), being somewhat fast maturing, and being broody.

I know that brahmas are slow to mature but if crossed with a NH red roo, which are suppossed to mature quickly, would the offspring be more likely to mature quicker than the brahma?

I am looking for something to use for meat, I don't expect anything as fast growing as cornish cross (had them, don't think I'll get em again)

Thanks

They probably will grow faster. Brahmas don't lay until they are like 7 to 9 months old. Rare occasions hens will lay later. You *might* end up with sex linked chicks crossing the new hamp. over the light brahmas. Not all brahmas will go broody though. It depends on the line they came from.
