Crossing Texas A & M's with Browns

Last bought a trio. (A pair of browns and a golden hen) They are old enough to lay but I haven't gotten a egg yet. I set up a light on a timer a couple of days ago to give them 16 hours of light. Any idea of how long until they start laying? The rooster tries to mount the hens but they will have no part of it. I haven't heard him crow yet either.

Once I get some fertile eggs to hatch, I want to buy some A & M's to crossbreed them to get a larger sized bird that isn't all white. Any idea on what the color of the offspring would be from browns and goldens?

I have bobwhites but want to get the A&M's in the spring. Mine seemed like they didnt start laying eggs for forever. I have heard the A&Ms start much earlier. I brought mine indoors and put a light on them and just kept it on and then started getting eggs. (it is our nightlight now !) My eggs are fertile but have YET to be able to hatch one! My male doesnt crow at all. I have seen the A&M's and they act/sound completely different from mine though.. so dont know if they should crow? Mine are going to be thanksgiving dinner and then Im starting over in the spring with the A&M's.

I have A&M's, I just hatched 50 a couple days ago. My newest babies are barely 5 weeks old and one of them laid an egg today.
The longest any of mine have taken to lay has been 6 weeks 3 days. But I am in TX and we moved them in the barn about 6 weeks ago (because of so much rain) and have christmas lights on them. And they are still laying. I love them.

Do you know what color you get by crossing browns with whites and goldens with whites.

Browns with whites or goldens with whites would get you more of the dominant color (not white) unless the dominant color has recessive white in its background, then you might get a small percentage of whites

Yes, brown plus white equals brown in the first generation. That's as far as I have gotten on color genetics. I thought I would get golden, but apparently gens don't mix like paint.

Hi,

Crossing Normal (Brown) with a white bird will produce Normal chicks. These chicks will be carring the white gene and will produce a number of white chicks in the next generation.
If you get white chicks in the first generation this means your Normal male is carrying white.

Crossing Gold with white will produce 2 golds and 1 normal chick in every three ratio. This is because the white you are using will most likely carry brown patches. White chicks will be produced in next generation. It's possable that some white chicks will have gold patches instead of normal (Brown)
