My 12 week olds insist on roosting right next to each other even though there are plenty of roosts!!!

this is the overall pic, shows most of them and most of the roosts.

I like it! Ours do that too, and as a first time chicken keeper I was wondering if they all wanted to be on the top roost to show they were "top chicken" instead of at the bottom of the pecking order....would that matter in chickens?

My pullets do that too, have since they were in the brooder. They all ganged up together on the floor of the brooder, even though the heat was ample. Now they all gang up together on the floor of the coop and sleep in a huge pile, even though roosts are available. They are just too silly

I think it's funny how they still crowd even when they go from the floor to the roosts!
Friends forever I guess! Mine have known each other from 3 weeks on.

How I got my flock grew:
1st: got 5 chicks from 4-H club
2nd: 3 days later got my 15 chicks from mypetchicken.com
3rd: 2-3 weeks later I got 4 more from 4-H club
and they have been best friends ever sence!!!

4 adults; Red(NHR), Fluffy rooster(silkie mix), and Penny(astralorp)
24 twelve week olds; Plenty of names!!! But I'll just tell breed; 3 EE's, 2 cochins, 1 red star, 2 BR's, 1 delaware, 5 BO's, 1 S.campine, 1 S.lakenvelder, 1 W.leggern, 1 crevecoeur, 1 cornish 1/2 frizzle*, and the other 5 are mutts.

*by halve frizzle I mean only the feathers under its wings and on its tail are frizzled.
