Crowing at midnight

I don’t make it to the house from the car before the crowing starts.
I have guard roosters. LOL If there is commotion in the yard the boys crow fairly continuously. When there were roofers working no on the house I thought the boys would loose their voices. Suddenly it went quiet and I looked out— it was lunch time. All the roofers were sitting in the shade. So non threatening. I knew they were done with lunch before the banging on the roof commenced— the crowing started.

We came home late tonight, after 11:30, and Hank started crowing. I thought this was unusual and went to check on them. Everyone was on their roosts, all accounted for. I think he heard my car and knew I had come home and hadn't come down to visit at roosting time as I usually do.
Does anyone else have a rooster that does this?
Yup. Only mine does it at like 2AM! :he He must want to keep the monsters away! :lau

:gig cute story

My roosters were crowing off and on the past couple nights. The moon is close to full now and is very bright where we are. As well Mars is considerably brighter than usual. I attributed the crowing here to the moonlight and maybe, just maybe the moonlight combined with the Mars light. Chickens have very light sensitive vision from what I understand.

I am awake at night a lot. My EE rooster Johnny crows whenever I go outside and also whenever there is a full moon, or even a bright partial moon, he does not care. He is a happy, well adjusted guy, though, and gets along well with others, which is more important than crowing in my book. His name is Johnny Be Good, but he is always "on the spot" and snarfs up a lot of treats!

My crows at daybreak and again when I sit on my back porch to drink coffee at 7 am, as to tell me they are ready for scratch and to be let out in their free range yard. He will also crow if anyone enters the back yard.
