Crowing At Midnight

I'm thinking he's hearing noises and is alerting to danger ..
My boys use to crow at all hours of the night, one then the other then the other. Neighbour nicely mentioned it wakes them so I dispatched 2 boys and the 3rd (youngest) one stayed and he doesn't crow till sunrise. I'm thinking my main rooster was very sensitive to predators and crowed because he was hearing the animals like wallabys and opossums around the coop at night.

I had a rooster that would crow in middle of the night.

Guess if they crow middle of the night because they think they’ll get hurt….. it turned into a self fulfilling prophecy. After a month of frustration it finally turned cool enough for dumplings.

Is there any nighttime traffic on your road so that headlights are hitting the coop? My in-town rooster would wake and crow because of headlights, which was awkward since we lived on a corner lot?

Is he crowing when the moon rises above trees/buildings and hit the coop? I *think* that's why I hear Ludwig in the wee hours of the night out here in the dark countryside.

He may be reacting to some kind of animal activity -- night predators or other night activity.

No no we live on a very quiet road so there's absolutely no traffic. Perhaps it's mice? I know there's mice that hang around the coop, maybe they are inside as well. I wouldn't have thought that would cause a rooster to crow though. This is all very interesting because up until now, I didn't even know that night crowing was something roosters did. I need to investigate further.

Thanks for the suggestions

Over the past few weeks my rooster, a Silkie named Pickles has been crowing at almost the exact same time every night. At around 12:00pm I am awoken by faint crowing from inside the coop. It's pitch dark and all the other hens are silent. I have absolutely no clue what his idea is or if he even knows what he's doing. I have been known to talk in my sleep so I can't point fingers at possibly innocent Cockerels but it is starting to get me concerned. Perhaps it's a lack of a particular brain cell🥴 or perhaps unknown to me, the chickens a hold late night parties🍻. I am sceptical of the latter.

Any ideas?
Neutrophil sometimes goes off well after midnight over here. Back when my bantam cockerels were still fussing around, Lefty loved to bicker with Zapraska via crowing matches at three in the morning.
Probably have some kind of homebrew I don't know about out there, fermenting behind the feed can, or something.

All joking aside, it's probably just Pickles announcing his presence and territory. Why they do this at obscene hours, I do not know, but I have enough trouble even trying to understand human males -- don't ask me about avian ones.

Yes that's what I'm thinking as well.
