Crowing buttons- in the middle of the night?

New to quail. I have 3 buttons that are about 8 weeks old. I just had to pull one out and separate him or her as she was being picked on. I guess I have to find him a home. (I'm in ma, if anyone is interested).

The biggest one that I assumed was a female must be a male? He's a bully and has started crowing. Thing is, he's crowing first thing in the am but also at random times in the middle of the night. What's up with that?

They are in a 20 gallon long tank with loads of cover and rocks. Game bird starter and fresh water always available.

Button quail rooster crowing bothers you?

I can barely hear my coturnix jumbos roos "crowing", and it reminds more singing of some exotic birds than "crowing" comparing to chicken rooster crow.

Myself I love "crowing" it is part of music of nature, once I have about 15 chicken roosters really "crowing",

and I enjoyed every moment of that.

Button quail are monogamous and mate in pairs so if there were three, you need to pair up some if you can tell male and female from them. Then either find a home for the lone one or find it a mate.

Thanks! I didn't mean to sound like it was bothering us. I guess I just wanted to make sure it was normal. I wasn't aware they'd be active at night like that. It's a sweet sound and it's certainly not something that disturbs our sleep.

We know that we have to rehome one, but I thought if I could figure out the gender, I'd be better able to place him or her with a mate.

I'll search the forum for sexing advice.
