I've heard of crowing hens before, but never expected it to happen to us! Olympia, our Black Australorp lead hen, is a loudmouth to begin with. A few minutes ago she was telling everyone about the egg she just laid when I suddenly heard her crow twice!
This bird is a champion layer and in no way a rooster. Pretty funny hope the neighbors don't notice, though!
When ever I see this - I always think about what my grandmother used to say and then giggle "Whistling girls and crowing hens always come to some bad end"
